the SONG list: april

SPRING is in the AIR. Summer is right around the corner. And ripped jeans are always in style. the SONG list: april is officially here.

Heading Home (feat. Josef Salvat) by GRYFFIN // Is it my favorite song right now?! 100% yes. It’s basically a “driving down the PCH” dream.

You Got Me (feat. Cara Frew) by SNBRN & BLU J // I discovered SNBRN at coachella this year and they are SUPER. Easy EDM, forget the trap. But you’ll be ready for this thing people talk about in New York called “Rooftop SZN.”

Plot Twist by Sigrid // From Island Records, Sigrid is one chart-topper in the works. You’ll belt “SHOTS FIRED” right before that chorus and it has warm weather written all over it.

Lifetimes by Oh Wonder // Yes. Just. Yes. If the spring breeze had a theme song, Oh Wonder has it set.

Don’t Take The Money by Bleachers // One of my favorite bands is gearing up for their upcoming summer LP. The record builds off the greatness that was their last album and explodes into a stadium anthem.

The Cure by Lady Gaga // Casually the most brilliant song of 2017. Can we talk about that HOOK?!?

HUMBLE. by Kendrick Lamar // See you later Drake. Kendrick just broke the record for most albums sold in a week with DAMN.  Easily his best album since his debut and the lead single is going viral.

Get It Together (feat. Black Coffee & Jorja Smith) by Drake // If you listened to the SONG list: december, you heard Jorja Smith croon away on her EP. Drake recruits her for one groovy track.

Wild Horses by Bishop Briggs // The BEST vocalist I’ve seen in a very, very long time. It’s dance, punk, r&B with some EDM. She’s one to watch.

Sign of the Times by Harry Styles // Not David Bowie, but Mr. Styles. The lead single off his solo effort deserves a Gold Medal. And ROCKS that SoulCycle studio.

the FESTIVAL list: coachella 2017

70-80 degrees, palm trees, fresh lemonade, covered stages, art installations and crazy outfits are more than encouraged. It’s not just Coachella, it’s practically heaven. Whether you’re headed to Weekend 2 or just want the scoop on this year’s festival, I’ve recapped my favorite weekend of the year with a list of the top 10 best performers on the lineup.

10. SOHN – His debut album is what I turn on in the painting and photography studio and his Friday afternoon set did not disappoint. Grab one of the fresh strawberry banana mango smoothies by the stage for this one.

9. Oh Wonder – A PURE delight. With palm trees outlining their technicolor set, you’ll smile and sway to this duo. Their second LP is out this Spring and you’ll get a few sneak peeks of the record.

8. GRYFFIN – Head to the Sahara tent and get ready to DANCE. Leave a few minutes early as this tent will surely be PACKED. Throw your hands up and plan to stay for his entire set.

7. The xx – Magical harmonies that tug your heart strings. This band has been on my must-see list for years and they lived up to EVERY EXPECTATION. Grab your spot early. You’ll want to be right in the crossfire of their light show.

6. Banks – The CLEAR winner of the first day fo Coachella. Banks soared through material from her incredible sophomore release, The Altar. With modern dance, lace, and fabric, it’s a fusion of performance art and symphonic brilliance.

5. Bishop Briggs – TALK ABOUT A POWERHOUSE. She’ll blow you completely away with her mad voice control and range. Even if you haven’t heard her debut EP, skip the other acts and head to her Sunday night set.

4. Bon Iver – Strategically placed between Future and Gaga’s sets for some crowd control,  their Coachella performance was out. of. this. world. If you aren’t into slow, sad songs skip it. Yet, if you do, enjoy their sonic waves in the California breeze.

3. Future – Aka where DRAKE showed up, followed by MIGOS, and Ty Dolla $ign. Get ready to jump, be squeezed, and have the time of your life. It was low key the most star-studded set of the weekend with Katy Perry, Tyler the Creator, Amber Rose and more watching from that artist guest lounge.

IMG_0815.jpg

2. Lady Gaga – A-YO it’s a wild good time. She gives those super fans (hey, what’s up) and her smash hits wild new choreography, an EPIC set, tons of Gaga-jokes, and fireworks. Her new single (which she premiered 😆 during Weekend 1) is sure to be THE CURE to your Day 2 sunburn.

IMG_0947.jpg

1. Lorde – The. most. brilliant. festival. set. I honestly think I’ve ever seen. Lorde isn’t a wild dancer anymore, she’s a polished performer. The visual design is spectacular, her vocals are impeccable and its a performance people will be bragging about for years having witnessed. Coachella, melodramatic royalty.

Other notable highlights: HP’s Antarctic Tent, The Head and the Heart, the margaritas between the Outdoor and Coachella stage, Lady Gaga’s merchandise, Autograf, Local Natives, SNBRN, and Father John Misty.

the TREND list: spring 2017

50 LISTS. That’s right. 50. LISTs. have. made. THE BLOG. Who would have thought?! Anyways, on list #50… I’m introducing a new kind of list. the TREND list or all of the “trendy/cool/interesting” things I can’t stop telling everyone I know about.

The RETURN of LORDE // Did I spend the past four days running around New York only playing this song?! Definitely. I’m all about Ella + Antonoff + and their BRILLIANT new jam.

Khalid’s American Teen // Talk about a DEBUT album. It’s sonic heaven and perfect for the spring. You’ll be blown away from start to finish. Hear it here.

Dig Inn // Chipotle, you have been replaced. I don’t know why it took me five months to discover this 8th wonder of the world just five blocks from my apartment. Brown Rice BOWLS with Brussel Sprouts for days.

Get Out // GET OUT of your HOUSE and into the chilly weather to see this thriller. Meeting the parents just got scarier, important, and will change the way you think of people drinking tea out of old china forever.

Snapseed // I’m ALWAYS on the GO and I like to stop in the middle of the street to take photos. Sometimes you get the wrong angle or your camera should have been moved an inch over…and then THIS APP saves the day. It will change your life.

Marine Layer // We all need soft t-shirts. Marine Layer has the JACKPOT. And their TWO stores in NYC rock. Trust ME WORLD. Go no further.

Big Little Lies // HANDS DOWN my favorite show of 2017. It’s beautiful, riveting, and will cause major Monterey FOMO. And the music selection is stellar. Leon Bridges. Alabama Shakes. What more could you need? Oh yeah, Nicole Kidman. 😊

Coachella // I didn’t think I’d be headed to Coachella this year since I couldn’t get tickets. YET, have no fear. The stars aligned. My friends and I grabbed wristbands for weekend one. I’ll see ya sOOn Radiohead, Gaga, Kendrick, Lorde and The xx. I promise the FESTIVAL list: coachella 2017 is going to be GRAND. I also apologize for spamming your Instagram feeds in advance.

SoFar Sounds // Pop-up shows with rising artists located all over the city. It’s a unique way to connect, meet new friends, and fall in love with live music all over again. In over 300 cities, put checking out one of their shows on your to-do list.

LOVE // The first season made the original TV list and you bet I’ll be bingeing season 2 this weekend. It’s a show with a lot of laughs and a whole lot of heart.

the BUCKET list

New Year? New Lists. And I’m kicking off 2017 with the BUCKET list. Basically, a TO DO list of life. Yes, I have lists of what coffee spots I still need to try, what movies I need to watch before the Oscars, what albums I need to hear, etc., etc., etc. YET, this is more of a list of the BIG things I want to do…Like getting my face turned into a balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Just kidding. That would be terrifying.

  1. Climb Machu Picchu – Because my head is normally in the clouds.
  2. Attend the GRAMMYs – Sitting next to Lady Gaga and Kanye West of course.
  3. Drink a cup of coffee and read outside of a café in Paris – Probably going to dress up in a suit with aviators just to feel like James Bond undercover at the same time.
  4. Hang out with elephants on a South African SAFARI– Sorry Animal Kingdom, I want the real thing.
  5. Find a secret beach in Hawaii – 🌊🌞🌴🐠🏄
  6. Learn to SURF – Only wearing a Stitch onesie from Lilo & Stitch singing IZ.
  7. Start an Arts Education Foundation – We’re 100% doing A Chorus Line as the first show and installing two dark rooms.
  8. Open my own coffee shop – Probably when I’m 64. I need about 42 more years of coffee drinking experience first.
  9. Rock overalls to Coachella – Why Not?!
  10. Become a Spin Class Instructor – TAP IT BACK WORLD. Waking up at 5:00 AM to blast pop music while shouting out inspirational phrases couldn’t be any closer to my personal brand.

the LIFE list: the THINGS of 2016

What in the world Charlie?! the THINGS of 2016?!

YEAH MAN. Basically a list of all the things in 2016 that are 💯% approved by the LISTS of CHARLIE. In 2015, I would have said kale, Kit & Ace, SHOWTIME’s The Affair and Pizza Hut’s $10 dinner box. What’s good in 2016?! Oh yeah. These 10 things:

  1. TV this YEAR has been crazy, stupid awesome. From Westworld to Insecure to Black Mirror to The Affair (yeah it’s still that good). Binge away world, binge away.
  2. Biscoff Cookies because you can actually get an ENTIRE SLEEVE OF THEM at your local grocery store. No need to hoard them from your flight attendants or steal them from sleeping neighbors on the plane.
  3. Stan Smith sneakers. Hands down the coolest shoe known to man in 2016. Sorry Mr. West. Keeping them all white is still a struggle, hence my third & fourth pair.
  4. SoulCycle gets your FEELING ALIVE. Hugs are better than drugs. But sometimes SoulCycle is better than hugs. I tapped it back for this first time in January and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
  5. Coachella doesn’t need an explanation. It’s just heaven on earth. Zella Day. The 1975. Grimes. Anderson Paak. SIA. Plus also those surprise guests.
  6. Moleskine Planners because I customized mine with “sup” instead of my initials. Also because “hey, what’s up, hello” wouldn’t fit.
  7. Walk through Walls by Marina Abramovíc aka the best BOOK I’ve read in years. A memoir of Abramovíc’s life as a performance artist filled with creative inspiration on actually every page. I used two highlighters on this one.
  8. SPENDING ALL MY EXTRA CASH ON LATTEs and ESPRESSO SHOTS in search of that best cup of coffee. Who takes the cake?! Alfred Coffee in Los Angeles, Houndstooth Coffee in Dallas, Thou Mayest in Kansas City and Bluestone Lane in New York City.
  9. POST-GRAD LIFE because adulting can actually be quite fun.
  10. La La Land is MARVELOUS. HAND THEM ALL THE OSCARS NOW. Just go see it and prepare to be blown away. You’ll start smiling 30 seconds in and won’t stop until you’ve left the theatre. Or maybe you won’t stop smiling ever 🙂
